Tech apprenticeships
Support school leavers’ transition to employment

A route to social mobility
We’re here to break down the barriers to employment for young people from families with low incomes and under-represented groups.
At Day One, we believe that tech apprenticeships are a powerful vehicle for social mobility, equipping young people with in-demand digital skills that open doors to well-paid, future-proof careers. The reality is clear: roles requiring tech skills pay, on average, 29% more than those that don’t. Yet, despite the rising demand for advanced digital skills, fewer young people are entering the workforce with these capabilities (Learning and Work Institute Report, 2021).
Our focus areas
First steps
We offer unwavering support to school leavers, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, who encounter hurdles to securing that crucial 'Day One' opportunity.
Class and race
Young people from higher class backgrounds are 4X more likely to be in professional occupations, and those from global majority face barriers to employment. We actively empower school leavers from underrepresented backgrounds.
Supported apprenticeship model
Starts in schools with exposure to industry inspiring role models and programmes that develop professional confidence and hard skills; but we don’t stop there, once young people have secured apprenticeships, we’re alongside them from day one and doing whatever it takes
We can’t do it alone
Whether you're a champion for diversity, a trailblazing professional, or even a big-shot in the C-Suite who wants to give back talk to us about how you can support young people into rewarding careers.
The challenge
One major challenge is the digital skills gap, which continues to widen as industries evolve faster than education systems can keep up. At the same time, digital poverty prevents many young people from accessing the resources and training they need to build the skills that employers demand. Without intervention, these barriers can leave talented individuals locked out of stable, high-security jobs in the tech sector.
Bridging the gap
To bridge this gap, we are working in London and Manchester to help young people gain the skills and confidence needed to transition successfully from school to employment through apprenticeships. Our model is built around Gatsby Benchmarks, ensuring high-quality career preparation.
But we don’t stop there—our support continues beyond school, helping young people navigate the challenges of starting an apprenticeship and ensuring they stay on track toward a successful career. By providing tailored support, industry connections, and direct pathways into apprenticeships, we’re not just filling vacancies—we’re transforming futures.
